Sharing Achievement and Success in the New Normal: Chinese Taipei attended the 26th Virtual APEC SME Ministerial Meeting
Mr. Chern-Chyi Chen, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Economic Affairs, attended the 26th APEC SME virtual Ministerial Meeting on 23 October and presented on the topic of "Strategy of SMEs' Digitalization in the New Normal Era." Mr. Chen shared Chinese Taipei's experience in responding to SME development during COVID-19. Mr. Chen discussed efforts to establish a stable environment for SME development through public-private partnership as a means of creating business opportunities and encouraging sustainable and inclusive growth.
The meeting was kicked off by H.E. Dato Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi Bin Tuanku Jaafar, Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Malaysia, and Chair of the 26th APEC SME Ministerial Meeting. The meeting, with the theme of "Navigating the New Normal: Restarting and Reviving MSMEs through Digitalisation, Innovation and Technology," centered on "COVID-19 and MSMEs - Best Practices to Mitigate the Impact of the Pandemic" and "Digitalizing MSMEs for an Inclusive and Sustainable New Normal." Multiple member economies, including Malaysia, New Zealand, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam, shared relevant experience and best practices that have helped MSMEs create business opportunities and navigate through the pandemic crisis. Chinese Taipei, along with several other member economies, related the critical role which digital technology plays in the new normal and its best practices.
Mr. Chen, representing Chinese Taipei, presented on the "Strategy of SMEs' Digitalization in the New Normal Era," and described the experience of establishing a secure environment and the strategy of SMEs' digitalization since the pandemic began. Chinese Taipei has utilized digital technologies to contain the pandemic and establish an environment more favorable to SME development. Furthermore, Chinese Taipei has implemented relief and stimulus measures, built digital capacity for women-led and start-up MSMEs, and created digital and international business opportunities in order to equalize SME development.
Mr. Chen reiterated the importance of digital technology and public-private partnership, and indicated that Chinese Taipei looks forward to sharing experiences through the APEC platform, deepening cooperation among member economies, and working hand-in-hand towards sustainable development and innovative, shared prosperity.
